What is WordPress?

WordPress is a free blog and content management system that makes creating and maintaining websites simple through a user friendly web-based interface. Once it’s installed on your domain and web host, all you need is a computer and Internet connection to edit your website without any additional software. If you know how to use Microsoft Word, then WordPress will be a snap.

What is a theme?

A WordPress Theme is a collection of files that work together to produce a graphical interface with an underlying unifying design for a blog or content management system. These files are called template files. A theme modifies the way the site is displayed, without modifying the underlying software. Themes may include customized template files, image files (*.jpg, *.gif), style sheets (*.css), custom Pages, as well as any necessary code files (*.php).

What do I need to have in order to use a theme?

Basic knowledge of WordPress;
A domain name;
Web host (Linux platform);
Free WordPress software installed (Many web hosting companies offer a quick install of WordPress. However, if you don’t want to mess with installing WordPress on your hosting account, we offer an installation service).

How do I pick the right theme?

There is no right or wrong theme. Whatever theme you pick can be customized to your personal or business specifications. That’s the beauty of WordPress. Beyond our own customized themes, you can always search the WordPress Themes Viewer for a wide variety of themes. If you see something you like, but need it tweaked to your specifications, BusyLife Studios can get you up and running in no time.

What kind of support is offered?

Currently, we only offer support services for paying design customers. General questions can be searched and submitted via the WordPress forums.

Do BusyLife Studios themes work on WordPress.com?

No, our themes are designed for use on the self-hosted version of WordPress.

Do you have any tutorials for using WordPress?

Not currently, but we hope to in the future. For now we refer you to the wonderful WordPress Codex.

Does BusyLife Studios accept phone calls?

We do not offer phone consultations unless we are creating a customized blog or website for you. Eliminating support calls enables us to continue to generate free WordPress themes. We do however answer respond to emails as soon as we can. We also utilize instant message technology as needed with your purchase of one of our service packages.

Are your themes compatible with plugins and widgets?

We style and code our themes to be compatible with most standard plugins and widgets. But due to the sheer numbers of plugins and widgets available we cannot code for them all. Thus, some plugins and widgets may cause the theme to “break” in certain browsers. We make every attempt to prepare our themes for them, but cannot guarantee it will work in every situation. If you would like help integrating certain plugins with our themes, please contact us for a special services fee.

Can I remove the credits in the footer?

Once again our themes are open source so you can alter them anyway you like.

Are the stock photos featured in the theme demo/preview sites included in the purchase?

No. Due to licensing agreements, we cannot include stock images in our templates. However, we recommend  iStockphoto, PhotoSpin and Fotolia for quality, royalty-free and affordable photos and graphic images.

What software do you suggest for editing photos?

Two popular image-editing software products are GIMP (free) and Photoshop Elements (paid).
